Running her slender fingers through her hair, she scrunched up her nose as she looked at herself in the bathroom mirror. She missed that usual golden tone that clung to her skin since she was practically born. It didn't matter how long she stayed out in the sun, it seemed like it wasn't going to come back. Her bright blue eyes seemed slightly milky now and it scared her how hollow they looked. Maybe she was just over analyzing herself or being paranoid. Pulling her dark locks up into a messy yet chic bun, she splashed some water on her face and then dried it off with a towel. She wore absolutely nothing spectacular. She normally didn't. Most of her outfits, if it wasn't a uniform for one of her many jobs, was usually a v neck tank top borrowed from Athena and then maybe shorts borrowed from Cali since she always lost track as to whose clothing was whose since they all practically wore the same size despite their age differences. So right now was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. She had her ratty Chucks on and a white tank top with some navy colored shorts and, always, her parents' wedding bands on a chain around her neck. She never took it off and when she had to sell a lot of their stuff just to move in with Athena in Greece, she refused to sell any of their jewelery. Furniture and clothing could go but all their gold, though it wasn't much, wasn't something she would give up any time soon. She sold everything she could think of-after all two plane tickets to Greece from Brazil was costly and Athena couldn't afford it.
Walking out of the bathroom, she felt the eerie silence fall upon her thin shoulders. Everyone was down in the basement, having God knows what kind of meeting, and since she was, well, Viv, she was upstairs, getting some food ready for them. She had some brownies baking in the oven for dessert since someone brought over extra ingredients so she could whip something up. Shifting through some pots and pans, she eventually was well on her way to some good Brazilian cooking. She liked Greek food but she was born and raised in Brazil for sixteen years. Nothing compared to it. Feeling the itch rise up in the back of her throat while chopping the celery, she suddenly burst out into a fit of coughing, immediately bringing the crook of her arm up to cover it up. None of her sisters or anyone, really, knew she was sick and she really wanted to keep it that way. They had enough to worry and stress about than her.
Dropping the knife as she continued to practically hack up a lung, her free hand gripped the counter top tightly to keep her balance. She could taste the blood in her mouth and she attempted to spit it out into the sink, turning on the water to wash it down. She hated it when this happened. It felt like she couldn't breathe and like the world was spinning beneath her feet. After a few minutes, she was able to finally catch her breathe and she stood there for a second, gripping the counter so tightly, her arms were trembling. She could see the spots of blood she'd coughed up on her arm and the water washing away whatever she coughed up into the sink. She knew damn well now would probably be a good time to go find the Black Market and try to get some of that rumored firewater to help her get better but she couldn't afford it even if she wanted to and the hospital? Unless she wanted to basically put her sisters through another family death...Though at this rate it didn't seem that far off.
She'd been so caught up in her own thoughts that when she heard someone's voice and their hand on her thin shoulder, she nearly jumped out of her skin. Crap.

------------------------------------------------------------
she had just woke up. she wasn't sure of the time, and it didn't really matter to her. unless it was night. then, she'd be going out. she didn't have class today, which made her happy. cali actually liked school though, but just wasn't in the mood today. besides, she had a long night last night. getting up to go to class wouldn't have been something she wanted. she stretched as she sat up in her bed. in her peripheral, she saw a quick glimpse of herself. she probably looked like a hot mess right now. that had to be fixed. cali isn't the type to go about not looking like a ten. it just wasn't in her being. she had to look great all the time. she would die if someone saw her not at her best. appearances were everything. she knew she looked okay without nice clothes and make-up, but it just added to it. she had to look absolutely fabulous. cali got out of bed and hopped in the shower. after about an hour, she had showered, gotten dressed, did her hair and make-up and put on one of her mother's old rings. luckily, viv didn't sell their parents' jewelry when they were trying to gather up some money. cali didn't really care at first, but now she was glad she didn't. viv always thought ahead and did what's best for them. cali appreciated her for that. for everything, actually. she probably doesn't acknowledge viv's sacrifices enough, or ever, but she does love her for it. her and viv are very close, and always had been. she was just always there for cali, listened to her whine, got her everything she wants, and was just so great. athena was never like that. not with cali anyway. another reason cali hates her. but, at least she gets along with viv. viv keeps her sane. but, she worries cali sometimes. she is always working, doesn't get how gorgeous she is, and is alone most of the time. cali almost feels bad for her, but can't do anything about it. she has her own issues. if viv needs something, she could always ask. but she never would. she isn't like that. as she walked barefoot into the kitchen, she saw viv cooking something. this made cali excited. she was a horrible cook - viv was a great cook. she loved her cooking; it was always so good. but cali wondered why she was cooking. then, she clued in. there was a meeting in the basement. she hated that. the mysterious meetings. she was almost certain it was a rebel meeting, but never said anything about it, or had gotten any info. they were always so eerie and made cali feel uncomfortable, knowing something so unknown was going on in her house. but, it was all up to athena, so she had no say. she found it so annoying - the meetings, the disease, the rebels vs the government. she just wanted it to stop, so they could get back to their normal lives. "meeting?" she said, quietly as she approached her sister. who, apparently didn't hear her. this made cali annoyed and got closer. she put her hand on her shoulder to snap her out of her thoughts, "is there a meeting?" she scared her sister. she smiled at her jump, "sorry, but you were deep in thought."--------------------
